In 2015, Live Seafood started selling North Sea crab caught by the Keuter family’s own vessel, the UK146. These were small quantities and we were very dependent on the weather for our supply. Soon, we started working with various English vessels that are highly skilled in crab fishing and can always be at sea, regardless of the weather conditions. This allowed Live Seafood to grow and also start exporting to China. Now, 10 years later, Live Seafood is located in a beautiful building with ample storage capacity for crab, and we continue to grow every year in terms of turnover and storage capacity.
Despite our growth, we remain a true family business in which the entire Keuter family regularly works together with employees who go above and beyond their duties and treat the business as their own. We answer our phones almost 24 hours a day when we receive calls, and our service is as high as our quality!
Because we are such a close-knit team that works together perfectly, we are extremely flexible. Our main activity is exporting live crab to China. However, we can also deliver throughout Europe, and every order, large or small, is handled with care.
North Sea crab is not yet equally appreciated in every European country, but fortunately we are still seeing growth and increased awareness of the crab. And that’s how it should be, because the claw meat of a well-filled North Sea crab is just as good as the much more highly prized lobster, and the white and brown meat of the crab is also ideal for salads, sandwiches or crab burgers. Live Seafood has saltwater tanks in which it can keep the crab alive without stress, so that the customer receives the crab alive. A crab that is dead quickly becomes poisonous, which is why dead crab can no longer be used for consumption.
The Chinese mitten crab is extremely popular with Asians all over the world. Unfortunately for the trade and fishermen, this crab is subject to European legislation on exotic species, despite the fact that it has been present in the Netherlands for almost 120 years, and as a result, trade in mitten crab is only permitted within Dutch borders. Nevertheless, there is also a good market for mitten crab within the Netherlands. Mitten crab is a seasonal product that is mainly caught in the months of October to December. The rest of the year, the product is only available in limited quantities.
Canadian lobster has become an integral part of the European menu. After all, who doesn’t like lobster? That is why we import lobster from Canada for sale within Europe. We also regularly have European lobster in stock, which is caught in the same pots as North Sea crab. Because fishermen do not (yet) focus on European lobster, supplies are often limited.
We also regularly supply our customers with oysters, sea bass and pike-perch. But in principle, we can supply anything you need. Please contact us so we can send you our prices.
